The weekend of January 16-18, 2016 (Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend) will be a free snowmobiling weekend to encourage out-of-state and Canadian snowmobile enthusiasts to sled in New York State. State registration fees will be waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobiling enthusiasts wishing to explore New York’s 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails. Information on snowmobiling, including online registration for out-of-state snowmobilers is available here.

PINE BUSH, NY – October 2015 - The New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) is now accepting proposals for Commercial General Liability Insurance and other insurance products. In New York State, more than 60% of snowmobile trails are located on private property, making a NYSSA insurance policy the first line of defense for landowners and private and governmental entities.

Application Deadline for NYSSA Scholarships is February 29, 2016!

Each year, NYSSA awards two $500 scholarships:

  • Norris Brusoe NYSSA Scholarship
  • Joan & Digger Vriessen NYSSA Scholarship

Only members of NYS Snowmobile Clubs will be eligible for these Scholarships.

NYSSA Scholarships: Applications are currently being accepted for two (2) $500 Scholarships. Only members of NYSSA Snowmobile Clubs as of January 1, 2016 will be eligible for the Norris Brusoe and for the Joan Vriessen Scholarships.

ACSA Scholarships: The top two New York applications will also be sent to the Northeast Chapter of the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (NEC) Scholarship Committee, where they will compete against applications from other Northeast States for two (2) $1,000 scholarships.

Criterion: The NYSSA Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make its awards based upon academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community service and the quality of the original essay submitted with each application. Financial need is a secondary criterion used in the selection of the winner. Completion of the financial need portion of the application is optional, however students who have provided a complete financial background will be given priority over those whose applications are incomplete when all other considerations are the same. Please make sure you include attachments 1 through 6 on the application.

Snowmobile safety courses have begun PDF Print E-mail

Through the efforts of our clubs, New York State is a leader in snowmobile education.  Courses are taught by certified and experienced club instructors who volunteer their time to make the sport safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

Successful completion of this course results in the award of an NYS snowmobile safety certificate. This certificate grants those holders, ages 14-17 years old the privilege of operating a snowmobile without adult supervision.

Courses are free and sponsored by snowmobile clubs.  Please pre-register early as classes fill up fast.
