NYSSA Welcomes New Trail Coordinator

Welcome New Trail Coordinator Jim Rolf!

Jim Rolf

The New York State Snowmobile Association is pleased to announce the selection of James E. Rolf of Rome, NY as their new statewide Trails Coordinator.  Gary Broderick, NYSSA President enthusiastically supported Rolf’s selection, “Jim is an excellent choice for the future of organized snowmobiling in New York State-he brings many talents to the table, all of which will help make snowmobiling in the state better and safer.  I have full faith and confidence in Jim’s abilities.”

Jim Rolf will be following Dave Perkins, the first and only NYSSA Trails Coordinator.  Dave noted, “Jim Rolf brings a great deal of snowmobiling experience to the Trails coordinator position. He has worked with many groups for the benefit of trails, has experience dealing with trails along the canal corridor, and is knowledgeable about snowmobile issues in the Adirondack Park.  He should do well in service to the 230 plus snowmobile clubs in New York.”

The Trails Coordinator works closely with the NYSSA Trails Committee and Executive Director.   His primary job will be to work with clubs in the field to ensure the consistent condition of snowmobile trails throughout the State.   “The Board of Directors has chosen well in adding Jim to our team of NYSSA staff support.” added Dom Jacangelo, NYSSA Executive Director.  “Jim not only understands trail development but he is also familiar with many of our NYSSA members, clubs and and directors having served on the Board of Directors in the past.”

Jim was selected from over seventy individuals who had submitted their credentials to the Hiring Committee.  His extensive trail-related experience includes the past 17 years as Trail Coordinator for his local snowmobile club; 12 years on the Rome Sand Plains Management team with members from The Nature Conservancy, The Canal Corporation, NYS DEC, NYS DOT, as well as other local environmental & trail groups; first elected President of the Oneida Co. Area Snowmobile Association in 1998; Oneida County’s Alternate Director for NYSSA for four years, and several other related positions in snowmobile clubs.   Jim is also currently the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors to The Oneida County Convention & Visitors Bureau (aka Oneida Co. Tourism), where he represents the local snowmobile tourism impact to that group.

Jim Rolf states “I obviously understand the shoes I am about to fill.  With the utmost respect for what Dave Perkins has meant to snowmobiling in NYS and accomplished in his years in this position, I firmly believe that I can help the 230+ NYSSA clubs build upon the solid foundation that he has provided.  My experience working with elected officials and the many agencies that snowmobile club officers must work with to have successful trail systems has generated mutual respect and understanding of the issues these groups have in protecting the ecology in NY.  We will continue this course and will strive to provide an even better snowmobile trail system each and every year.  I want to thank the NYSSA Board of Directors for selecting me for this position.  I look forward to the challenges of this new role.”

“Everyone at NYSSA expresses their deep appreciation to Dave Perkins for the years of service that he has given to the organization in a variety of positions.  He not only set the bar very high for what is expected of a trails coordinator he also put in countless hours in helping us to select his successor,”  concluded NYSSA president Gary Broderick.
