Home Riding Information FAQ Riding New York trails Season Opening and Closing dates
Season Opening and Closing dates PDF Print E-mail

First, the majority of trails are on private land, and as such we must respect each landowners desires.

Generally the season starts after big game hunting seasons are over.   There is no one date for trail opening or closing because big game hunting seasons dates vary by region and landowners may want to delay trail openings for a variety of reasons, such as farming activity.

So if you see a gate still closed-IT MEANS TRAIL CLOSED.  Your errant action could create a the trail closure.  Stay within trail boundary and teach those that ride with you to do the same.  Always follow trail signage and expect detours and closures, especially at the beginning of the season.

Please check with the club where you intend ride for trail openings, closures, and conditions.

PS. Club trail works days in the fall are a great way to find out trail changes and restrictions while helping make the trails you ride safer and more enjoyable.
